Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
There is one Great Giver, and that One gives to everyone. The giving never runs low — the storehouses are countless and always overflowing. The Giver is alive forever.
So, dear heart, why let yourself forget such a One? No one is to blame for our forgetting — getting tangled in "me and mine" is just part of the flow we are learning our way through.
The One who gives us everything also eases our aches from within — and, Nanak says, those who turn toward the Guru find themselves filled and content.
There is one Giver whose giving never runs out, and no one is blamed for forgetting.
Dadda is the "endless Giver" Pauri. Daataa ayk hai — the One Giver, whose bhandaar (storehouses) are agnat (countless) and never run tot (short). The tender surprise here is dos nahee kaahoo ka-o — "no one is at fault." Our forgetting is part of maa-i-aa moh, attachment, woven into the flow. Man moorakh, "foolish mind," is a gentle self-address: dear heart. The close, darad nivaareh jaa kay aapay... dharaapay — the One eases pains and the gurmukh is fulfilled/content — keeps the whole Pauri in the register of abundance and mercy, no scarcity, no blame.
What is something good in your life that just keeps being given to you, without you ever having to earn it?
