Here is the wonderful secret: this medicine is already inside every heart, in everyone. It is not somewhere far away that you have to travel to. What you need is the Perfect Guru, to show you how to prepare it and take it. And Nanak says: once you have learned that, the old sorrow does not come back to settle in you.

Naam aukhadh — the Naam as medicine — is the governing image: dookh darad tih miteh khinaahoo, pain dissolved in an instant. The key line is har aukhadh sabh ghat hai bhaaee — the healing Naam is already in every heart. Grace is present already; the Guru teaches you how to prepare and receive what was always there (gur poorai sanjam kar dee-aa). Rog, disease, is something to heal. The close, phir dookh na thee-aa, bends toward lasting relief.
