Praise the One who, in a single instant, can fill an empty heart until it overflows — no matter how empty it felt before.
When a person grows deeply humble, they naturally remember the One, day and night. And when it delights the One, deep peace is given — for the One is beyond all counting and measure, and forgives countless slips in a moment. Nanak says: remember this always — the Great One is merciful, forever and without end.
The One fills the empty heart to overflowing and forgives countless slips in a moment, and is merciful forever.
This is the verse for the letter Khakha, and it lifts up the humble. Jo khin meh oonay subhar bharaahoo — the One fills the empty to overflowing in an instant. Think of a dry sponge dropped into a bowl of water.
Kharaa nimaanaa hot paraanee — when a person becomes deeply humble. That is the gate to remembering the nirbaanee One, the One free from every attachment.
Asakh khatay khin bakhsanhaaraa — the One forgives countless slips in an instant. The weight falls clearly on mercy: naanak saahib sadaa da-i-aaraa, the Master is merciful forever. Grace dissolves the list of faults and keeps things hopeful. Humility here means being filled up, not putting yourself down.
Have you ever felt suddenly full and light after feeling empty? What made the difference?
