In plain words

Listen, dear friend, to my message of love — my eyes are fixed on You, waiting.

The Guru was glad, and brought Nanak to the friend he longed for; now he rests easy and sleep in peace.

The One can be met as the dearest friend you have been watching the road for — and that reunion brings the deep rest of finally being home.
The deeper layer

A small, warm Shalok in the voice of longing meeting fulfillment. Sun saajan — "listen, dear friend" — addresses the One not as a distant power but as a beloved companion, which is one of the most beautiful moves in Gurbani: the divine as saajan, the friend you most want to see. The eyes "fixed" (akhee taar lagann) are the eyes of someone watching the road for a returning friend. And the resolution is quiet domestic peace: sukh savann, "he sleeps in peace" — reunion doesn't bring fireworks but the deep rest of finally being with the one you missed. The Guru is the one who arranges the meeting.

A Question to Sit With

Is there someone whose return you watch for and long to see? What does that longing feel like?
