The finest thing to ask for is the One who is complete in themselves.
Nanak says: other pleadings pull a person off course; without the Giver, they lead nowhere, my friend.
Jaachrhee saa saar jo jaachandee hekrho — "the best begging is the begging that asks for the One." Everyone asks for something, all day long; asking is fine, and what matters is aim. To keep begging the world for things that wash out is bi-aa vikaar, "other, and corrupting" — not sinful, but off-target, scattering a person's longing across a hundred small wants. Dhanee vihoonee-aa: without the dhanee (the Master, the true wealth) at the center, all that reaching comes up empty-handed. The medicine is to point the one big longing at the one thing that can hold it.
If you could ask for just one thing and receive it, what would you choose — and why that?
