Real Worth Isn't the Applause You Collect

ਹਮ ਅਪਤਹ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥
ham aptah apunee pat kho-ee.
I am dishonored; I have lost my honor.
ਹਮਰੈ ਖੋਜਿ ਪਰਹੁ ਮਤਿ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
hamrai khoj parahu mat ko-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
No one should follow in my footsteps. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

In the world's eyes I may look like someone who has lost his standing — I no longer chase the honors people chase. And that is fine with me. Just don't measure your own life by mine; find the truth for yourself, from the inside.

Real worth isn't the applause you collect from others — and no one's path is meant to be simply copied.
The deeper layer

This is the Rahao, the hinge. Ham aptah, apunee pat khoee — "I have lost my honor" — is spoken cheerfully: Kabir has dropped worldly pat (status/reputation) for a truer honor. Hamrai khoj parahu mat koee — "let no one just follow in my footprints" — is remarkable: he refuses to become a new idol. The path is not imitation of a person but the inner recognition itself. Real honor, he'll say, is what the One accepts, not what the crowd awards.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you value that other people might not give you credit for — and why is it still worth valuing?
