Verse 3 of 4

What Endless Learning Missed, Simple Love Brought Home

ਬ੍ਰਹਮੈ ਕਥਿ ਕਥਿ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
barahmai kath kath ant na paa-i-aa.
Brahma spoke of Him continually, but could not find His limit.
ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਬੈਠੇ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੨॥
raam bhagat baithay ghar aa-i-aa. ||2||
Because of my devotion to the Lord, He has come to sit within the home of my inner being. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Even the great creator-power spoke and spoke of the One and never reached the end of it. And yet, through simple love, the One came and sat right here, in the quiet home of my own heart.

What endless learning could not reach, simple love brought home.
The deeper layer

A lovely paradox: Brahma (the creator-figure of tradition) could not measure the One with endless speaking — yet a devotee's love brings the One "home" to the heart. The teaching levels grand religious knowledge against simple love, and love wins. Brahma is treated respectfully, as a great figure who nonetheless meets the same limit everyone does.

A Question to Sit With

Is there something you understand through love better than you ever could through study?
