Verse 4 of 4

When the Restless Mind Quiets, What Remains Is Love

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਚੰਚਲ ਮਤਿ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥
kaho kabeer chanchal mat ti-aagee.
Says Kabir, I have renounced my restless intellect.
ਕੇਵਲ ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਜ ਭਾਗੀ ॥੩॥੧॥੧੯॥
kayval raam bhagat nij bhaagee. ||3||1||19||
It is my destiny to worship the Lord alone. ||3||1||19||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I have let my restless, jumpy mind grow quiet, says Kabir. This is what I am for: simply to love the One.

When the restless mind grows quiet, what remains is simply love.
The deeper layer

The close: chanchal mat tiaagee — setting down the restless intellect — and nij bhaagee, "my own portion / destiny," to love the One alone. Rendered as finding what one is truly for. Not renouncing thinking, but letting the jumpy, grasping quality of mind settle into single-hearted love.

A Question to Sit With

What do you feel you are truly "for" when your mind grows calm and clear?
