No Label Touches the Worth of a Turned Heart

ਜਾਤਿ ਜੁਲਾਹਾ ਮਤਿ ਕਾ ਧੀਰੁ ॥
jaat julaahaa mat kaa Dheer.
I am a weaver by birth, and patient of mind.
ਸਹਜਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਮੈ ਕਬੀਰੁ ॥੩॥੨੬॥
sahj sahj gun ramai kabeer. ||3||26||
Slowly, steadily, Kabir chants the Glories of God. ||3||26||

In plain words

By the world's labels, I am a weaver, a worker with humble hands — and my mind is patient and steady. Slowly, calmly, Kabir sings the glory of the One, and needs nothing else.

No label the world hands you can touch the worth of a heart turned toward the One.
The deeper layer

The famous close: jaat julaahaa — "a weaver by caste." Kabir names his own weaver trade with quiet dignity and no apology — because caste has nothing to do with a heart's worth. Sahj sahj — slowly, in natural poise — he sings the One. This is a landmark of caste-leveling: the humble weaver stands as fully at home in the One as anyone.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever seen someone judged by a label that had nothing to do with who they really are?
