The Highest Word Is Heard in Holy Company

ga-orhee gu-aarayree mehlaa 4.
Gauree Gwaarayree, Fourth Mehl:
ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਕਥਾ ਕਥਾ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ॥
nirgun kathaa kathaa hai har kee.
The Speech of the Lord is the most sublime speech, free of any attributes.
ਭਜੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਜਨ ਕੀ ॥
bhaj mil saaDhoo sangat jan kee.
Vibrate on it, meditate on it, and join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਤਰੁ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ॥੧॥
tar bha-ojal akath kathaa sun har kee. ||1||
Cross over the terrifying world-ocean, listening to the Unspoken Speech of the Lord. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One's word is the highest word of all, beyond every quality. Keep it alive in you, and join the company of holy hearts. Listening to that unspoken speech, you cross the terrifying ocean.

The highest word is beyond words -- and you hear it in holy company.
The deeper layer

The Lord's speech is nirgun -- beyond attributes -- and yet heard as the Unspoken Speech, akath kathaa (which commentators connect with the Anhad, the unstruck). The means is the Saadh Sangat -- the crossing happens in company, by listening (Suniai).

A Question to Sit With

Where do you go to be around people who bring out something deeper in you?
