A Thousand Flavors Won't Ease the Craving

In plain words

You can taste every flavor the world offers, one after another. And your craving still won't ease, not even for a moment.

But taste the sweetness of the One — the deep, real flavor — and something happens. You're left wonder-struck, amazed, filled in a way nothing else could fill you.

A thousand flavors won't ease the craving; one real sweetness leaves you amazed.
The deeper layer

More treats never fill the hunger. One sweetness does.

Aan rasaa jaytay tai chaakhay — you may taste every other flavor. Nimakh na tarisnaa tayree laathay — yet your thirst does not leave, not even for a moment. Tarisnaa is the thirst of always wanting more.

Har ras kaa too chaakhahi saad — but when you taste the flavor of the One... Chaakhat ho-ay raheh bismaad — tasting it, you are left full of wonder. Bismaad means amazed wonder.

Ras means both flavor and delight. This whole shabad is built around taste. Think of eating chips from a bag. One more, one more, and you are never full. Now think of a warm meal cooked by someone who loves you. The answer is not more flavors. It is a different kind of sweetness, one that truly satisfies.

A Question to Sit With

What's a taste of wonder — a moment of amazement — that filled you more than any treat?
