In plain words

My heart used to hang upside-down, closed and turned away. Quiet reflection on the One turned it right-side up, open again. Then, from the high inner sky behind the secret gate, a sweetness began to trickle down. The One is everywhere -- in every world there is.

Quiet reflection turns the heart right-side up, and a hidden sweetness begins to flow.
The deeper layer

This one says quiet reflection turns the heart the right way up, and then sweetness flows in.

Ulti-o kamal barahm beechaar — the upside-down lotus is turned upright by reflecting on the One. A kamal is a lotus flower, a classic picture of the heart. Left to itself, the heart hangs downward, closed and turned away from where it came from. Reflection turns it upright, so it can open and receive. Picture a cup held upside-down in the rain. Turn it over, and it starts to fill.

Amrit dhaar gagan das du-aar — nectar trickles down from the sky of the Tenth Gate. The Tenth Gate is a picture for the highest place of awareness inside us. Earlier shabads speak of it too. The nectar is usually read as knowing the One, felt as sweetness and not only as an idea.

The verse ends by saying there is only One, everywhere. The One fills all three worlds.

A Question to Sit With

What helps your heart feel "turned the right way" -- open instead of closed?
