The One Is Not Watching From Far; It Is Near

poor rahay aykai guntaas. ||3||
The One Lord, the Treasure of Excellence, is perfectly pervading everywhere. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One sees, speaks, and hears through everything — present in it all. So, my mind, hold close the One who is always right here with you.

By the kindness of good people, a light has dawned in me. And I see the One, the treasure of all that's good, filling everything, everywhere.

The One isn't watching from far away — it sees and hears through everything, always near.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan says the One is not far away watching us, but right here, seeing and hearing through everything.

Paykhai bolai sunai sabh aap — the One itself sees, speaks and hears in all things. Sadaa sang taa ka-u man jaap — so, my mind, hold close the One who is always with you.

Sant parsaad bha-i-o pargaas — by the kindness of good people, a pargaas, a light, has dawned. And what does that light show? Poor rahay aykai guntaas — the One, the guntaas or treasure of all good qualities, fills everything, everywhere.

This is Ik Onkar, the One, seen as close as can be. The One is doing the seeing and hearing through every living being. Think of a lamp behind many colored glass windows. Each window glows differently, but it is the same light shining through all of them. The dawning light is simply noticing that presence everywhere.

A Question to Sit With

If the One is present in everyone you meet, how might that change how you treat them?
