Grace Opens a Hidden Room in Your Own Home

ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਮਿਲਿ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
gur mili-ai mil ank samaa-i-aa.
Uniting in Guru's Union, we are absorbed in His Loving Embrace.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਘਰੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
kar kirpaa ghar mahal dikhaa-i-aa.
Granting His Grace, He reveals the Mansion of His Presence, within the home of the self.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੯॥
naanak ha-umai maar milaa-i-aa. ||4||9||
O Nanak, conquering egotism, we are absorbed into the Lord. ||4||9||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Joined with the One, you melt into its loving hold. Grace throws open a hidden room right inside your own home -- and there the One is. With the proud "me" conquered, you dissolve into the One.

Grace opens a hidden room inside your own home -- and the One is already there.
The deeper layer

The closing seals the theme: union as absorption in the Beloved's embrace. The mansion of the Presence is revealed within the home of the self -- the divine address is interior (cf. the Tenth Gate, the jewel within). The final word, again, is the conquest of haumai.

A Question to Sit With

What might it mean that the most sacred place is somewhere inside you?
