Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਹੈ ਸਮੀਆ ॥
jaa kaa meet saajan hai samee-aa.
Those who have the Lord as their Friend and Companion
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਕਹੁ ਕਾ ਕੀ ਕਮੀਆ ॥੧॥
tis jan ka-o kaho kaa kee kamee-aa. ||1||
- tell me, what else do they need? ||1||

In plain words

The One is everywhere, and the One is your friend and companion. Then tell me, what could you possibly still be lacking?

When the One is your friend, what could you possibly still be lacking?
The deeper layer

When the One is your friend, nothing that truly matters is missing.

Jaa kaa meet saajan hai samee-aa — the one whose meet, friend, and saajan, dear companion, is samee-aa, the One present in everything. Two warm, close words sit beside one very big word. The One is near like a best friend and vast like the sky, both at once.

Tis jan ka-o kaho kaa kee kamee-aa — tell me, what could that person lack? This question is the heart of the whole shabad. Think of a long day that ends with your best friend waiting at the school gate. You don't feel empty anymore. Whoever has the One as friend has, in the deepest sense, everything.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to have a friend so steady that everything else feels a little less scary?
