Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
When your heart is bound in love to the One who holds the whole universe, then pain and hurt and confusion simply turn and run from you.
When your love is fastened to the One, pain and confusion lose their hold.
This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. It explains the confidence of the first verse. Jaa kee pareet gobind si-o laagee — whose pareet, love, is fastened to Gobind, the One who cares for the universe. Dookh darad bharam taa kaa bhaagee — dookh and darad, pain and suffering, and bharam, doubt, run away from them.
Notice that doubt is named right beside pain. For Guru Arjan, much suffering is the confusion of feeling separate, and love for the One melts it. Trouble does not vanish from life. It loses its power to shake a heart anchored in love. Think of a boat tied to a strong dock. The waves still come, but the boat does not drift away.
When you're anchored by someone who loves you, how do your worries change?
