Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

There are sweet, life-giving pools of the deepest teaching within. Whoever is ready drinks freely and is filled.

Deep within is a sweet, life-giving spring — and whoever is ready gets to drink their fill.
The deeper layer

Deep inside is a spring of sweet teaching, and whoever finds it can drink as much as they like.

This line is the rahaa-o, the "pause." It is the center of the shabad. Sahj kathaa kay amrit kuntaa — here are the pools of amrit of the peaceful telling. Amrit is nectar, the sweet water that gives life. Sahj kathaa is the calm, natural telling of the One.

Jisahi paraapat tis lai bhunchaa — whoever receives it drinks and feasts. Paraapat means it has come to them, so they are ready. That readiness is the same quiet, grace-opened mind from the verse before.

Think of coming home hot and thirsty and drinking a cold glass of water. The inner life is like that. It is not dry duty. It is a place to be fed, to taste sweetness, and to drink your fill.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that genuinely nourishes you on the inside, the way water nourishes on the outside?
