Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The One gives honor to those the world overlooks, and feeds everyone who is hungry.
The One watches over each life from its very beginning — so I gladly bow to that One, again and again.
Guru Arjan names the One by what it does for the least noticed: nimaanay ka-o ... maan — honor for the dishonored, food for the hungry. The line about the garabh (the womb, the earliest place of life) is rendered gently here as the One watching over life from its very start — keeping the tender kernel that we are guarded before we could even ask, without any frightening imagery. The response is namaskaar — grateful bowing.
Who around you might feel overlooked — and how could you notice them?
