Verse 2 of 5

The Rulers Who Become Servants

ਸਗਲ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕੇ ਪੰਚ ਸਿਕਦਾਰ ॥
sagal sarisat kay panch sikdaar.
The five demons are the rulers of the whole world,
ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤ ਕੇ ਪਾਨੀਹਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam bhagat kay paaneehaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
but they are just water-carriers for the Lord's devotee. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

These five inner pulls seem to rule the whole world.

But for the one who loves the One, they turn into humble helpers instead of masters.

What rules most people can become a servant to a heart rooted in the One.
The deeper layer

The rahau. Sagal sarisat kay panch sikdaar — the five as 'chiefs' ruling everyone. The reversal is the whole point: for the raam bhagat (the One's lover), the same five become paaneehaar — water-carriers, servants. What masters most people becomes a servant to the heart rooted in the One.

A Question to Sit With

How might a strong feeling like anger become a helper instead of a boss?
