In plain words

In kindness, the One fills me with peace and quiet joy.

The Teacher has kept me safe, the way you keep a little child safe.

The One is gentle and full of care, the keeper of the whole world.

Every living being, without exception, is blessed by the One.

You are kept safe the way a parent keeps a small child safe.
The deeper layer

Baalak raakh lee-ay gurdayv — the shabad's keynote is the tenderness of a parent guarding a small child. This is one of Gurbani's most comforting images of the divine: not a judge but a protector who does not let a child come to harm. Jee-a jant saglay bakhsind widens it — every being, no one left out, is included in that blessing. The inclusivity is deliberate and total.

A Question to Sit With

When do you feel most looked-after and safe?
