Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I come into Your shelter, gentle One, so kind to the humble.
Holding You in mind, I stay glad and at ease, always.
Step under the shelter that is always open, and gladness stays steady.
The rahau: tayree saran prabh deen da-i-aal. Taking saran (shelter) is the heart-gesture of this whole shabad set — stepping under a roof that was always open. Sadaa nihaal, 'forever in ecstasy,' is rendered as staying glad and at ease; the steadiness matters more than the intensity. It is the settled brightness of someone who knows they are held.
A Question to Sit With
Where — or with whom — do you feel most sheltered and at ease?
