Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The threads hang broken, the starch has dried up, the weaving tools lie scattered and still.
The loom that once kept us busy has gone quiet — because my whole heart has turned somewhere else.
What looks like everything falling apart can be a heart quietly turning toward what matters most.
Kabir was a weaver, and this shabad is built from his own trade. The picture of the abandoned loom is how his neighbors and family saw his growing devotion — as everything falling apart. Kabir lets us see it through their eyes first, before turning it around. What looks like ruin from outside is, from inside, a heart re-aimed.
A Question to Sit With
Has something ever looked like a mess to others but felt right and clear to you inside?
