The Simple Gift That Steadies The Heart Toward The One

annai binaa na ho-ay sukaal.
Without this grain, time does not pass in peace.
taji-ai ann na milai gupaal.
Forsaking this grain, one does not meet the Lord of the World.
kaho kabeer ham aisay jaani-aa.
Says Kabir, this I know:
Dhan anaad thaakur man maani-aa. ||4||8||11||
blessed is that grain, which brings faith in the Lord and Master to the mind. ||4||8||11||

In plain words

Without this everyday gift of food, no good times roll and the body can't do its work.

So I say it plainly: blessed is the simple grain — the humble gift that keeps body and mind steady enough to lean, at last, toward the One.

The humble gift of food steadies body and mind enough to lean, at last, toward the One.
The deeper layer

The close brings it home: annai binaa na ho-ay sukaal — without grain, no good season; and forsaking it, one doesn't meet the One. Kabir's last word blesses the grain because it brings the mind to trust the One — a fed, steady body makes a heart able to rest in devotion. It's a deeply life-affirming end: honor the ordinary gifts, and they carry you toward the extraordinary.

A Question to Sit With

How can being grateful for small, ordinary gifts open your heart to bigger things?
