Verse 4 of 6

Meeting the Teacher, Seeing the Unseen

ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਨਾਰਾਇਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
naamday-o naaraa-in paa-i-aa.
So has Naam Dayv found the Lord.
ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਤ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
gur bhaytat alakh lakhaa-i-aa. ||3||
Meeting the Guru, I have seen the Unseen Lord. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

And then I found the One I ached for — meeting my teacher, I could finally see what had been there all along, unseen.

The One was never far — meeting the teacher clears your eyes to see what was always there.
The deeper layer

Alakh lakhaa-i-aa — the Unseeable made seen. Naaraa-in (a name for the One) is found, but the finding comes gur bhaytat, through meeting the Guru. The One was never actually absent — the longing verses were about the soul's blindness, not the One's distance. Meeting the teacher clears the eyes.

A Question to Sit With

Who has helped you finally see something that was in front of you all along?
