Please fulfill the hopes of servant Nanak, O Lord; his body finds peace and tranquility in the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan. ||4||6|| First set of six. ||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Please let my one hope be fulfilled — that I may truly see the One.

For in that one sight, my whole self, body and heart, finally comes to rest.

When you finally see what you longed for, your whole self can rest.
The deeper layer

Guru Ram Das ends with a prayer that his hope be answered.

Jan naanak kee har aas pujaavahu — fulfill the hope of Your servant Nanak. Aas means hope. The answer he longs for is har darsan, a true sight of the One. And the fruit is peace: the body itself comes to rest.

This song closes a group of six songs by Guru Ram Das. Hope that began as thirst now comes to rest in seeing. Think of the moment you finally spot your family at the airport after a long trip. Your whole body relaxes. Longing does not end in getting something. It ends in seeing.

A Question to Sit With

When have you felt your whole self finally relax and rest?
