The humble servants of the Lord are exalted, and exalted is their speech. With their mouths, they speak for the benefit of others.

Those who listen to them with faith and devotion, are blessed by the Lord; showering His Mercy, He saves them. ||1||

In plain words

The One's humble servants stand tall, and so does everything they say; when they speak, it's for others' good.

Whoever listens to them with real trust is blessed — grace rains down and carries them across.

Words spoken for others' good, and heard with trust, become a channel for grace to move through.
The deeper layer

The shabad opens by honoring the speech of the humble. Their words are "exalted" because they are spoken "for the benefit of others" — not to impress, sell, or win, but to help. And listening itself becomes a doorway: those who hear "with faith and devotion" are carried across. Words aimed at others' good, received with trust, become a channel of grace. Speech is treated here as sacred infrastructure.

A Question to Sit With

Whose words have genuinely helped carry you? What made you able to really hear them?
