The True Guru, the Perfect Guru, is my Beloved, my very breath of life; the Guru has saved me, the sinner. ||1||Pause||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
One thing, please: let me meet the beloved servants of the One.
The true and perfect teaching is my beloved, my very breath; it lifted even me, who had gone wrong.
Sometimes the most important thing to ask for isn't rescue but good company — that's where you get lifted.
The Pause line is a single, warm request — not for wealth or rescue but for company: "let me meet the beloved servants." Ram Das models the seeker's humility, calling himself "the sinner" the teaching "saved" — again spoken safely, as gratitude from inside rescue, not self-loathing. The deepest thing asked for is good company, because the whole shabad knows that is where a person is lifted.
A Question to Sit With
If you could ask for one kind of company in your life right now, what would you ask for?
