Verse 3 of 4

The Whole Show Is the One's Own Play

ਅਪਨੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਪਿ ਪਸਾਰੀ ਆਪਹਿ ਦੇਖਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
apnee maa-i-aa aap pasaaree aapeh daykhanhaaraa.
He Himself spread out the expanse of His Maya, and He Himself beholds it.
ਨਾਨਾ ਰੂਪੁ ਧਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਆਰਾ ॥੨॥
naanaa roop Dharay baho rangee sabh tay rahai ni-aaraa. ||2||
He assumes so many forms, and plays so many games, and yet, He remains detached from it all. ||2||

In plain words

The One itself spread out the whole play of the glitter, and itself watches it.

It takes on countless forms and plays countless games, and yet stays untouched by all of it.

The whole dazzling show is the One's own play — it acts every role and yet watches, untouched, as the unmoved witness.
The deeper layer

The verse gives the raag's final picture of the One and Maya: the One "spread out the expanse of His Maya, and He Himself beholds it" — the whole dazzling show is the One's own doing, watched by the One, played through countless forms, "and yet, He remains detached from it all." The glitter is not a rival power but the One's own play, and the One is both the actor in every role and the unmoved witness. This is the non-dual vision the whole section has built toward.

A Question to Sit With

What would it be to see the whole 'show' of life as one reality playing every part, itself unmoved?
