Ill-Gotten Abundance Is a Leaking Bucket

Through corruption, one may obtain thousands and millions of enjoyments, but even so, his desires are not satisfied through them.
simrat naam kot ujee-aaraa basat agochar soojhee. ||3||
Remembering the Naam, the Name of the Lord, millions of lights appear, and the incomprehensible is understood. ||3||

In plain words

Grab millions of pleasures by crooked means and still the wanting is never full.

Remember the Name, and a million lights switch on inside; what couldn't be grasped is understood.

Ill-gotten abundance is a leaking bucket — no amount fills it, while one honest turn inward lights the whole room.
The deeper layer

A sharp contrast between two economies. The first: pleasures seized "through corruption" — dishonestly, at others' cost — and the shocking result that even millions of them leave the wanting unfilled; ill-gotten abundance is a leaking bucket. The second: the Name, which lights "millions of lights" within and delivers understanding of "the incomprehensible." One path pours endlessly in and stays empty; the other is filled by a single turn inward. The difference is not quantity but kind.

A Question to Sit With

Have you noticed that 'more' of the wrong thing never seems to be enough? What actually fills you?
