In plain words

The One has kept the honor of its humble servant safe.

The teaching gave the medicine of the Name, and every affliction lifted away.

When something we feared for turns out well, gratitude — not more asking — becomes the truest prayer.
The deeper layer

This is the Pause line of a deeply personal shabad, traditionally sung by Guru Arjan in gratitude when his young son recovered from a grave illness. It opens on the One as the keeper of a servant's honor and as healer — "the medicine of the Lord's Name... and all afflictions are gone." The Name is imaged as medicine throughout the raag; here the healing is felt at its most intimate, a parent's relief when a sick child is well again. Gratitude, not petition, is the whole mood.

A Question to Sit With

When has relief after a scare filled you with thankfulness? What did you most want to say, and to whom?
