Ask for Small Things and You Get Small Water

ਸਿਧ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਾਚਹਿ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਜਾਚਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਜੈਕਾਰ ॥
siDh samaaDhee antar jaacheh riDh siDh jaach karahi jaikaar.
The Siddhas in Samaadhi beg for wealth and miracles, and proclaim His victory.
ਜੈਸੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਹੋਇ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੈਸੋ ਜਲੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਪਰਕਾਰ ॥੬॥
jaisee pi-aas ho-ay man antar taiso jal dayveh parkaar. ||6||
As is the thirst within their minds, so is the water which You give to them. ||6||

In plain words

Even the accomplished ones in deep trance beg for wealth and wonders, and shout their triumphs.

As the thirst in the mind, so is the water You give.

You receive according to what you truly thirst for — ask for small things, and you get small water.
The deeper layer

You get the kind of water you are thirsty for.

siDh samaaDhee antar jaacheh — the Siddhas in deep trance also beg. Siddhas are yogis famous for special powers. Their stillness did not stop their wanting. It just made the wanting fancier. They ask for wealth and miracles. This is gentle, not a put-down. Anyone can get stuck wanting.

Then comes a quiet, deep line. jaisee pi-aas ho-ay man antar — as is the thirst in the mind, taiso jal dayveh parkaar — so is the water You give. Think of a genie who gives exactly what you ask for. Ask for a pile of candy, and you get candy, not a friend. Ask for powers and wealth, and that is the lesser water you get. The depth of your thirst shapes the gift. Long for the One, and you are given the One.

A Question to Sit With

What do you actually thirst for most? Is it what you'd want to be given?
