Fear Can't Find the One Hidden in Remembrance

ਬਡੇ ਭਾਗ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਭੇਦੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਮੁਰਾਰ ॥
baday bhaag gur sayveh apunaa bhayd naahee gurdayv muraar.
The most fortunate ones serve their Guru; there is no difference between the Divine Guru and the Lord.

taa ka-o kaal naahee jam johai boojheh antar sabad beechaar. ||7||
The Messenger of Death cannot see those who come to realize within their minds the contemplative meditation of the Word of the Shabad. ||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The most fortunate serve their teacher — for there is no gap between the true teaching and the One.

Death cannot even see those who awaken, within, to the contemplation of the Word.

The deepest fear can't find the one hidden in remembrance — awareness of the deathless makes the fear of death go blind.
The deeper layer

Fear cannot find the one hidden in remembering.

baday bhaag gur sayveh apunaa — the very fortunate serve their Guru. bhayd naahee gurdayv muraar — there is no difference between the Guru and God. The true teaching and the One it shows are, deep down, one.

Then comes a surprising freedom. taa ka-o kaal naahee jam johai — the Messenger of Death, jam, cannot even see them. This is for those who take in the Word deep inside. It does not mean they will never die. It means their life is rooted in something death cannot touch.

Think of being so lost in a book you love that the thunder outside doesn't scare you. Knowing the One who never dies makes the fear of death lose its way.

A Question to Sit With

What fear seems to lose track of you when you're absorbed in something larger than yourself?
