Dear One — keep the honor of Your Name; I am hand in hand with You.
Be merciful and let me see You; through the Word I have burned my ego away.
The verse is intimate — "I am hand and glove with You" — a closeness that lets the speaker even entrust his standing to the One: "preserve the Honor of Your Name." And it reports the decisive inner event: "through the Word of the Shabad, I have burnt away my ego." The ego — the sense of being a separate, self-important self — is consumed in the fire of the teaching. What remains, hand in hand with the One, is a self small enough and clear enough to see.
