A Heart Full of the Deathless Owes Fear Nothing

O Siblings of Destiny, by Guru's Grace, I perform devotional worship to my Lord and Master.

One whose heart is filled with the Hymns of the True Guru, obtains the Pure Lord. He is not under the power of the Messenger of Death, nor does he owe Death anything. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

Family of the heart — by grace I worship my Master.

The one whose heart is full of the teaching's hymns finds the Pure One; death has no hold on them, and they owe death nothing.

We feel we owe death our fear — but a heart full of the deathless has already settled the account, and owes nothing.
The deeper layer

The Pause line names a startling freedom: the one filled with the teaching "is not under the power of the Messenger of Death, nor does he owe Death anything." The debt-language is striking — we usually feel we owe death our life, our fear, our dread. But the one whose heart is full of the imperishable has already settled the account; there is nothing left to collect. Filled with the deathless, you are debt-free before the one creditor everyone fears.

A Question to Sit With

What would it feel like to owe your fears nothing — to have already 'settled the account' with them?
