The One Blesses Even Those Who Resent It

ਐ ਜੀ ਖੋਟੇ ਠਉਰ ਨਾਹੀ ਘਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਈ ॥
ai jee khotay tha-ur naahee ghar baahar nindak gat nahee kaa-ee.
The false have no place of rest, either inside or outside; the slanderer does not find salvation.
ਰੋਸੁ ਕਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਖਸ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਚੜੈ ਸਵਾਈ ॥੩॥
ros karai parabh bakhas na maytai nit nit charhai savaa-ee. ||3||
Even if one is resentful, God does not withhold His blessings; day by day, they increase. ||3||

In plain words

The false find no rest anywhere, inside or out; one who tears others down finds no freedom.

Even toward the resentful, the One does not hold back its blessings; day by day they grow.

The One keeps blessing even those who resent it — a generosity that both shames our stinginess and shows a better way.
The deeper layer

The verse contrasts the restless and the generous One. The one built on falseness "has no place of rest, either inside or outside" — falseness cannot settle anywhere because it is always defending itself; the one who tears others down (the slanderer) stays unfree, locked in their own bitterness. Against this human meanness stands the divine largeness: "even if one is resentful, God does not withhold His blessings; day by day, they increase." The One keeps giving even to those who resent it — a generosity that shames our stinginess and models a better way.

A Question to Sit With

Could you keep being kind to someone even while they resent you? What would that take?
