My mind — singing the One's praise is a boat to carry you across.
Those who face the teaching receive the sweet nectar of the Name; You bless them by Your grace.
Sanak, Sanandan and the sage Naarad serve You, chanting Your Name day and night.
The servant Prahlaad came to Your shelter, and You kept his honor safe.
People who trusted the One before you were kept safe. That is good news for you.
This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Man ray har keerat tar taaree — O my mind, singing the One's praise is a boat that carries you across. The gurmukh, the one who faces the Guru, receives the Naam, the Name, like sweet life-giving water.
Then the verse gives examples. Sanak, Sanandan and the sage Naarad were great servants in the old stories. They kept the Name day and night. Then there is Prahlaad. He was a boy whose faith was tested by a cruel king. He took shelter in the One, and the One kept his honor safe.
The examples are there to reassure us. The One has a long record of protecting those who take shelter. It is like joining a team where every player before you was looked after. You are not the first to trust. Look at the ones who trusted before you, and see how they were kept.
Whose example of trust — someone who leaned on the good and was held — encourages you?
