Wonderful! The Creator itself has brought peace and calm.
It is kind to every being and creature; remember it always. The all-powerful One showed mercy, and my cries of pain are over. My fevers and aches and diseases are gone, by the perfect teaching's grace. The One set me firm and shielded me — the cherisher of the poor. It freed me and broke all my bonds. My thirst is quenched, my hopes fulfilled, my mind content. The greatest of the great is untouched by anyone's virtue or vice.
The thirteenth Pauree opens with "Waaho!" — wonder at a Creator who "brought about peace" and is "Kind to all beings and creatures." The universality is key: kindness "to all beings," not a chosen few. And the last line is theologically striking: the One "is not affected by virtue and vice" — beyond our moral bookkeeping, giving from its own nature, not swayed by our ledgers. Such a One heals "the poor" and breaks bonds freely.
How would it feel to be helped by a kindness that isn't first checking your record?
