Followers of the Vedas, the Bible and the Koran, standing at Your door, turn to You.
Countless are those who bow there. Brahma turns to You, and Indra on his throne; Shiva and Vishnu and their forms praise You with their mouths, and so do the pirs, the prophets, the shaykhs, the silent sages and seers. Through and through, the Formless One is woven into every heart. Falseness ruins a person; righteousness lifts them. Whatever the One links you to, that is what you're linked to.
This is the Vaar's great interfaith verse. Guru Arjan gathers everyone at the One's door — the followers of the Vedas, the Bible, and the Koran; Hindu gods and Muslim pirs and shaykhs and prophets and sages — all bowing to the same One, who is "woven into each and every heart." The many faiths and their many holy figures are shown facing one reality. This is universalism grounded in non-duality: one Formless One in every heart, whatever name the seeker uses.
What changes when you picture people of every faith turned, in their own way, toward the same reality?
