Protect me, O my God; Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||1||

Take away my craving, anger, pride, greed, clinging and harmful wants.
Protect me, my One; Nanak is forever an offering to You.
The honest prayer about your worst compulsions is simply: take them away — you don't have to defeat them alone.
A direct prayer of surrender: name the compulsions — craving, anger, pride, greed, attachment — and ask the One to "take them away." The speaker does not claim to conquer them himself; he hands them over. This is the Vaar's humility about the passions (see P44): they are too strong to defeat alone, so the honest move is to ask the One to remove them. And the self is offered in return: "forever a sacrifice to You."
A Question to Sit With
Which compulsion would you most want simply lifted from you? Could you ask, rather than only fight?
