In plain words

Without the One, you are like a stray ox, wandering loose.

Your nose is torn, your shoulders are sore, and all you get to eat is rough straw.

A life with no center wanders like a stray animal and wears itself down — the ache itself points to what's missing.
The deeper layer

Without the One, a life wanders like a lost animal.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line. It is the center of the whole shabad. Har bin bail biraanay hu-eehai — without the One, you become a stray ox. It belongs to no one and goes nowhere. Its nose is torn and its shoulders are sore. It eats only rough straw.

The picture is uncomfortable on purpose. But read it gently. It is not saying a person is worth nothing. It names what it feels like to have no center. Think of a phone with no signal, searching and searching until the battery runs down. A life with no center wanders and gets worn out. The ache itself points to the fix: a center, the One.

A Question to Sit With

When you've felt 'aimless,' did you also feel worn down? What gave you a center again?
