ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਸਹਸਾ ਜਾਈ ॥
satgur milai ta sahsaa jaa-ee.
Meeting the True Guru, doubt is dispelled.
ਕਿਸੁ ਹਉ ਪੂਜਉ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਈ ॥੩॥
kis ha-o pooja-o doojaa nadar na aa-ee. ||3||
Who else should I worship? I can see no other. ||3||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Meeting the true teaching, the doubt clears.
Whom else would I worship? I see no other.
Seeing that there is only One, the worshipper cannot scatter devotion among many — there is no other to bow to.
The verse reaches the non-dual conclusion: doubt cleared by the teaching, and "who else should I worship? I can see no other." There is only the One; there is nothing and no one else to bow to. This sets up the famous next verse — having seen that there is only One, the multiplication of gods and idols becomes untenable. The worshipper who sees only the One cannot scatter devotion among many.
A Question to Sit With
If you truly saw one reality behind everything, how would that focus your reverence?
