The One Slips In Like Peace Without a Doorbell

Goojaree, First House:

He does not have even a trace of impurity - He is beyond impurity. He is fragrantly scented - He has come to take His Seat in my mind.

No one saw Him come - who can know Him, O Siblings of Destiny? ||1||

In plain words

Not a speck of stain in it — it is beyond all impurity — and fragrant; it has come to sit in my mind.

No one saw it arrive. Who can really know it?

The One slips into the heart unseen, the way peace arrives without a doorbell — nearest, yet least catchable.
The deeper layer

The spotless One has come to sit in my mind, and no one saw it arrive.

This is a hymn of Bhagat Naam Dayv, a saint-poet whose songs are in the Guru Granth Sahib. He is full of wonder.

Malai na laachhai — the One has not a trace of dirt. Paramlee-o — the One is fragrant, like a sweet smell. Baitho ree aa-ee — the One has come and sat down in my mind.

Then the surprise: aavat kinai na paykhi-o — no one saw the One come in. Kavnai jaanai — who can know it?

Think of falling asleep. You never see the exact moment it happens. Peace and love arrive the same way. There is no doorbell and no knock. One day you notice they are already inside. The One is closest of all, and yet you cannot catch the moment it came.

A Question to Sit With

Has something good ever settled in you without your noticing the moment it arrived?
