In plain words

From the very beginning there was the First One. No one is equal to it. It loves truth and every good thing.

It is wonderful, beyond all creation. Remember it, and everyone is set free.

The One is described not merely as a commander of goodness but a lover of it — drawn to virtue, delighting in it.
The deeper layer

This line says the One does not just order goodness. The One loves it.

This shabad (hymn) is by Jai Dayv, a poet-saint who lived long before Guru Nanak. His words are in the Guru Granth Sahib. He begins at the very start of everything. In the beginning there was the First One, with no equal, sat aad bhaav — loving truth and every goodness.

That is a lovely thing to notice. The One is not only a boss who hands out rules about being good. The One is drawn to goodness and enjoys it, the way you light up when you hear your favorite song.

And remembering this wonderful One sets people free — all people. Think of a door with no lock and no guard. Anyone can walk in. The gate is open to everyone.

A Question to Sit With

What virtues do you love, not just approve of? What does it mean that the deepest reality loves them too?
