But the heart fixed at the last on the One —
Trilochan says — that one is set free, and the One comes to live in the heart.
This line is the happy ending the whole shabad was walking toward.
Ant kaal naaraa-in simrai — whoever thinks of Naaraa-in, the One, at the last moment, badat tilochan tay nar muktaa — says Trilochan, that person is set free. And peetambar vaa kay ridai basai — the One comes to live in their heart. Peetambar, "the one in yellow robes," is an old loving name for the One.
This changes how we hear all the warnings before it. The point was never the hard rebirths. The point was this glad chance.
Think of a sunflower. All day it turns its face toward the sun. So by evening it is still facing the light. Fix your love on the One, and the One fills you, in life and at the end. What you love, you become. So love the One, and be free.
What would it take to make the One (or the deepest good you know) the thing your heart returns to by habit?
