O Beautiful Lord God, Master of servant Nanak, there is none comparable to You. ||2||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I slept through the whole dark night of my life, but by the smallest touch of grace I woke.

Beautiful One, Master of Your servant — there is none like You.

It takes only the tiniest touch of grace to wake a lifelong sleeper — no one is too long-asleep to be woken.
The deeper layer

The verse is a tender testimony of awakening: "I slept through the entire dark night of my life" — a whole life spent unaware — "but through the tiniest bit of the Guru's Grace, I have been awakened." Note the proportion: it took only "the tiniest bit" of grace to wake a lifelong sleeper. Grace is powerful out of all proportion to its measure; a small touch of it can undo years of sleep. No one is too long-asleep to be woken.

A Question to Sit With

Has a small moment of grace ever woken you from a long stretch of 'sleep'? What was the touch?
