You're Freed From the Glitter by a Greater Beauty

ਟੂਟੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਫਾਹੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
tootay maa-i-aa kay banDhan faahay har raam naam liv laagay.
The bonds and shackles of Maya are shattered, by lovingly focusing their minds on the Name of the Lord.
ਹਮਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਮੋਹਨਿ ਹਮ ਬਿਸਮ ਭਈ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਗੇ ॥੧॥
hamraa man mohi-o gur mohan ham bisam bha-ee mukh laagay. ||1||
My mind is enticed by the Guru, the Enticer; beholding Him, I am wonder-struck. ||1||

In plain words

The chains of the glitter snap when the mind rests, in love, on the Name.

My mind is enchanted by the teaching, the great enchanter; seeing it, I am struck with wonder.

You're freed from the glitter's enchantment not by force but by falling for a greater beauty.
The deeper layer

The verse names liberation as chains snapping — "the bonds and shackles of Maya are shattered" — by love, not force. And it delights in the teaching as "the Enticer": the One and its teaching are so beautiful they enchant, drawing the heart away from the glitter by a stronger attraction. Wonder ("I am wonder-struck") is the natural response. You are freed from the lesser enchantment by falling for the greater one.

A Question to Sit With

What greater beauty could draw you away from a lesser thing that has you 'enchanted'?
