In plain words

Mother, whatever is going to be, will be.

The One runs through its whole creation; one person gains while another loses.

'Whatever is to be, will be' isn't fatalism — it's release from the illusion that your anxiety controls outcomes.
The deeper layer

Whatever is going to happen will happen, and that can bring peace. This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.

maa-ee honhaar so ho-ee-ai — Mother, whatever is to be, shall be. This is not giving up. It sets us free from a tiring idea: that our worrying controls what happens.

kahaa laabh kahaa kho-ee-ai — one person gains, another loses. Gains and losses come and go inside the One's bigger work. Think of flying a kite. You hold the string, but the wind does the lifting. Peace comes from trusting the wind, not from gripping the string harder.

A Question to Sit With

What outcome are you clutching that might ask, instead, for a trusting 'whatever will be, will be'?
