O Giver of peace, Destroyer of pain, Lord and Master - servant Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||2||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Countless servants and sages sing its praise, and none has found its limits.
Giver of peace, ender of pain — Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You.
Where words of praise run out, love keeps going — the One overflows every attempt to sing it fully.
The verse ends on the un-measurable One — even countless singers "have not found Your limits." This is not frustration but wonder: the One overflows every attempt to praise it fully. The proper response is not a completed hymn but self-offering — "forever a sacrifice to You." Where words run out, love keeps going.
A Question to Sit With
When have you loved something so much that words simply weren't enough?
