Doubt Dissolves the Moment You Hand Over the Way

ਆਪੁ ਮੇਟਿ ਪਏ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਇਹ ਮਤਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਕਹੀ ॥

Erasing my self-conceit, I have entered His Sanctuary; these are the Teachings spoken by the Holy Guru.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਮਾਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਭਰਮੁ ਅਧੇਰਾ ਲਹੀ ॥੧॥
parabh kee aagi-aa maan sukh paa-i-aa bharam aDhayraa lahee. ||1||
Surrendering to the Will of God, I attain peace, and the darkness of doubt is dispelled. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Erasing my self-importance, I entered its shelter — this is what the teaching taught.

Surrendering to the One's Will, I find peace, and the dark of doubt lifts.

Doubt feeds on 'will things go my way?' — and it dissolves the moment you hand the way over to a wiser Will.
The deeper layer

The verse names the doorway to sanctuary: "erasing my self-conceit." The ego is what keeps a person outside the shelter, insisting on its own way; drop it, and you're in. And surrender to the Will brings peace and clears doubt — because doubt largely feeds on the anxious question 'will things go my way?', which dissolves when you've handed the way over to the One.

A Question to Sit With

How much of your doubt is really anxiety about control? What would surrendering the outcome do to it?
