Verse 3 of 5

Goodness Kindles in Company Like Flame Lights Flame

har jan kay vadbhaag vadayray jin har har sarDhaa har pi-aas.
The Lord's servants have the greatest good fortune; they have faith in the Lord, Har, Har, and a thirst for the Lord.
har har naam milai tariptaasahi mil sangat gun pargaas. ||2||
Obtaining the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, they are satisfied; joining the Company of the Holy, their virtues shine forth. ||2||

In plain words

The ones who serve the One are the truly lucky — they trust the One and thirst for the One.

Finding the Name, they're filled; and in good company their goodness catches light and shines.

Goodness kindles in good company, the way one flame lights another — you become good partly by whom you stand near.
The deeper layer

The verse portrays the fortunate: marked not by wealth or status but by faith and thirst. The paradox returns — they are "satisfied" and yet "thirst," full and longing at once, which is the signature of living love. And their virtues "shine forth" specifically "in the Company of the Holy" — goodness is social; it kindles in good company the way one flame lights another. You become good partly by whom you stand near.

A Question to Sit With

Who lights up your best qualities just by being around? Whose company makes you kinder?
